FAQ Beauty Tools
Used for centuries, a rose quartz or jade face roller is an incredible beauty tool that is used to promote both inner and outer beauty.
This face roller tool is used to help firm the skin through gentle massage. Physically, the facial roller supports lymphatic drainage which helps to reduce the appearance of puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles.
Metaphysically, the rose quartz stone corresponds with the heart chakra, the energy centre of love. Jade meanwhile is recognised for its ability to warm and heal the skin and has been used in Chinese medicine and culture since the 7th century. Clearly they were onto something.
Our Habitual Beauty Rose Quartz face rollers can be used with a face mask or you may choose to use your face roller after removing the mask/face cream as this will help the mask/cream to absorb into the skin.
Incorporate the use of your habitual beauty face roller into your daily skin routine and follow the below guide to get the most out your rose quartz facial massager.
Using your face roller effectively is relatively straight forward but itβs important to use outward and upward strokes whilst slowly increasing the pressure as desired. For the dΓ©colletage (neckline chest and cleavage area) opt for downward strokes.
Use the smaller rose quartz roller to delicately work the under eye area and around eyes, brow and nose.
1. Begin rolling by starting at the centre of the face, under the eyes and cheekbones, moving out toward the hairline in short, gentle strokes.

2. Move down to the jawbone, still working in short strokes, starting at the chin, and moving out toward the bottom of the ears.
3. Next, roll above the eyebrows and forehead in an out and up motion. Use the smaller roller around the eyes and nose - take extra care
4. Finish by very gently rolling down the sides of the neck and then toward the center of the clavicle.
BONUS TIP:
For extra cooling and soothing place the stone in the refrigerator or on ice. The stone is naturally cold, but this extra temperature drop will support circulation and natural collagen production as well as help drain congested lymph nodes, rid the body of toxins, and help with sinus issues.
A Jade or Rose Quartz face roller supports lymphatic drainage (how well your skin breathes and cleans itself of toxins) which we already know has been proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help keep the skin looking younger. But beyond looking younger and healthier are there other benefits to using a jade or Rose Quartz face roller?
Tightening and toning the facial muscles
Reduces puffiness, especially the under eye area
Improving product absorption (from your topical skincare regimen)
Promoting & stimulating lymphatic drainage
Addressing puffiness and wrinkles
Calms inflammation and stimulates detoxification

The Gua Sha facial massage is an ancient beauty ritual known for its ability to breathe new life into the skin. This treatment also addresses issues like chronic pain and stress and is achieved by scraping your skin with a massage tool (gua sha) to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue. This increases blood flow tol help to smooth away the appearance of wrinkles and help to visibly firm the facial contours while awakening the skinβs natural glow.
Gua Sha face massage beauty tool
We always recommend that you place your Habitual Beauty Tools and Gua Sha stone in the fridge for at least 10 minutes prior to using it as the additional cooling will help stimulate circulation and is much more soothing on the skin.
Your Gua Sha should be placed on itβs flat side at a slight angle so that it glides over the skin without too much resistance or pulling.
Starting at the neck and decolletage, massage the Gua Sha upwards and outwards towards the chin and ears in a series of gentle yet deliberate strokes that will help detoxify the skin, improve circulation and boost lymphatic drainage.
Move on to the face and using the notched edge of your Gua Sha, follow the angle of the jaw upwards and outwards in smooth even strokes.
Use the curved edge to travel from nose to ear keep the pressue even throughout. Reduce the pressure when massaging under and around the eyes and again, ensure that the strokes are in the same direction, moving upwards and out towards the hairline.
It is recommended (but not essential) that you apply massage oil to the skin and then use the smooth edges of the gua sha stone as this additional lubrication can increase the effects of the Gua Sha whilst reducing tension.

In order to understand the difference between using Jade or Rose Quartz we need to first understand where they came from and why they are the stones of choice when it comes to helping reduce stress, fine lines and general anxiety
Practitioners of ancient Chinese medicine have revered Jade for its healing abilities since the 7th century. They understood the connection between the stone and an ability to warm and heal the skin and it seems modern science has vindicated these ancient practitioners because it turns out that Jade is a natural transmitter of Far Infrared rays. These rays transmit low levels of heat which allows Jade to warm up the skin and boost microcirculation. Jade is also believed to symbolize longevity and grace where as Rose Quartz is heralded as the stone of love and healing.
Rose Quartz is said to help unclog the Heart Chakra, letting go of stress and negativity that can cause tension in the muscle, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. I personally prefer the Rose Quartz stone over Jade because of the link to the heart chakra and the fact it also helps relieve tension and stress on top of the lymphatic drainage benefits. I also prefer Rose Quartz because it is pink - and who doesnβt love pink?!
We personally use and recommend a Rose Quartz face roller over a jade face roller, and not just because itβs pink. Hereβs a few reasons why we prefer Rose Quartz over Jade:
Rose Quartz has inherent minerals- silicium, magnesium, iron, sodium and oxygen- that skin can topically borrow and benefit from when rolling.
Rose Quartz stays cool for longer and will only heat to body temperature after repeated use. Jade on the other hand tends to warm up with repeated use.
Rose Quartz is better known for its wrinkle reducing, lymphatic draining abilities
Because jade is a soft stone and can encounter wear and tear with repeated use, a Rose Quartz roller may (and dare we say, will) last you longer
Did we also mention that Rose Quartz is pink?
Most face rollers have a larger egg-shaped Rose Quartz stone on one end and a smaller oval shaped stone on the other end. The larger end is used to massage the cheeks, chin and forehead whilst the smaller end is used around the nose and beneath the eyes.
It is important to note that since all face rollers are made from natural stone, no two Rose Quartz or jade rollers are the same. There will always be imperfections and variations in colour. We also recommend looking for a facial roller that comes in a box or pouch so you can safely and hygienically store it when not in use.
